Founded by Steve Jacobs and Damian Smalley, Scarlet Capital’s mission is to be the go-to experts for (i) clients looking to invest in the financial services and technology sectors and (ii) financial services and technology companies in need of independent advice and support.
UK based but with global coverage and a roster of international clients, Scarlet Capital has the flexibility to invest across the maturity curve – and the expertise to advise clients on strategy, M&A, operational effectiveness and digitalisation.
Our Founders
Steve Jacobs
CO-FOUNDER, SCARLET CAPITAL
Steve was a Managing Partner for over 13 years at BTG Pactual, the Brazil-listed investment banking group, where he was Chairman & CEO of BTG Pactual’s Asset Management business and a member of the International Operating Committee. In 2016 BTG Pactual acquired a 30% stake in EFG International, the Swiss-listed global private banking group, and Steve served as a Board member of EFG for almost seven years until April 2023. In this role he led EFG’s acquisition of Shaw and Partners in 2019, an Australian wealth management business, and became the Chairman. Steve remains a senior adviser to BTG Pactual and EFG.
Prior to BTG Pactual, Steve had over a decade at UBS where he was Head of Group Strategy and M&A, responsible for over 30 deals around the world acting as principle for UBS. He then moved to UBS’s asset management business, where he was Head Private Equity & Infrastructure and a member of UBS Global Asset Management’s Executive Committee.
DAMIAN SMALLEY
CO-FOUNDER, SCARLET CAPITAL
An expert in creating value through technology, Damian was founder and CEO of Elbus Group for over 17 years, an international boutique advisory and consulting company that specialised in engaging with shareholders and management across the world on issues of digital transformation, operational efficiency and growth, managing in excess of $6bn portfolio. In this role he has been asked by a number of his clients to step into the day-to-day CEO or CIO role to oversee execution and implementation. Damian has also invested alongside a number of companies that he has advised on.
Damian held senior roles at Sun Microsystems in Europe and worked with a number of leading brands such as BT, Dentsu-Aegis, Centrica, Evelyn Partners who also served as a former military officer at GCHQ, the UK’s intelligence, security, and cyber agency. Damian is Chartered Engineer and holds a Master of Science (MSc) from the London School of Economics in International Strategy & Diplomacy.
